LiDAR Data for Idaho

LiDAR Home | Links

Light Distance and Ranging (LiDAR) technology employs an airborne scanning laser rangefinder to produce accurate topographic surveys.

Currently, for Idaho, LiDAR data are available for an area west of Boise, Idaho (along tenmile creek and fifteenmile creeks) due to the collection efforts of the Bureau of Reclamation, Snake River Area office and the Natural Resources Conservation Service, Idaho office. See the project area boundary image for a graphical representation of the area for which data are available as well as project metadata for a text description of the project.

What data are available?

Multiple data products are available including the raw LiDAR point files, First Return DEMs (the LidAR First Return measures the elevations of the canopy, building roof elevations, and other unobstructed surfaces), Bare Earth DEMs (in a Bare Earth DEM all canopy and structure information has been subtracted and the result is used to create a DEM of ground elevations), and an intensity image. Data are available in UTM11 projection, NAD83 datum or IDTM projection, NAD83 datum. The raw LiDAR point files are in .IBN format. The First Return and Bare Earth DEMs are in ESRI float grid format. The intensity image is in GeoTIFF format. The raw LiDAR point files are spatially organized into approximately 2286 meters x 2286 meters tiles. The First Return and Bare Earth DEMs are spatially organized into 31 tiles approximately 4572 meters x 4572 meters. The intensity image covers the entire project area.

How can the data be acquired?

The data are available online for download. Additionally, due to the number and size of some of the tiles, the data my be acquired offline [some tiles approach 400MB].
