SPOT 2.5-meter Satellite Imagery

SPOT Home | License Agreement | Additional Information

Idaho's 2.5-meter SPOT satellite coverage is a statewide tonal balanced (meaning that the contrast is fairly consistent across the state), image product. This imagery is designed to be "load-n-go" into GIS and image processing systems. These black and white images support base mapping scales of approximately 1:24,000. There are 137 images associated with this product that are spatially organized into 30-minute x 30-minute tiles. The SPOT scenes were acquired from 08/09/2002 through 08/30/2003 (view here).

What data are available?

Georeferenced images for Idaho are available as GeoTiffs in UTM projection - NAD83. The GeoTiff images are spatially organized into 137 30-minute x 30-minute frames and are approximately 400 Mbytes/tile.

Who is eligible and is there a cost?

Georeferenced images are available for free.  However, due to license restrictions, access to georeferenced SPOT imagery data will only be provided to:

  • All the Departments and Agencies within Idaho State Government; Regional, County and Local Governments within Idaho including Council of Governments; K-12 public schools, State Colleges and State Universities within Idaho.

  • In addition, the State of Idaho Department of Administration may share the data with Federal agencies and Tribal Governments operating within Idaho.

The license agreement with SPOT Image Corporation does not include distribution of georeferenced images to the general public.

The data may be made available to contractors and consultants by organizations meeting the license restrictions, but only for use on behalf of the organization, and only if each such person agrees in writing (a) to be bound by the same limitations on use as apply to the organization; and (b) to return to the organization all SPOT Data upon completion of the contracting or consulting engagement.  Data will not be distributed to contractors or consultants via this web site -- contractors and consultants must obtain the data from the organization for which they are performing work.
