A
geologic map is an author/geologist's working hypothesis about the
geology of his or her study area. Obtaining data for a geologic map from
field geology involves many tasks including photo interpretation, field
checking, field data collection, drill hole interpretation, and geologic
interpretation. Geologic mapping is a highly subjective science. The
geologic data presented in a map are intended for non site-specific use.

The Idaho Geological Survey created these data which are spatially arranged by 30 x 60 minute USGS quadrangle. The maps, which may be viewed by clicking here, are Adobe PDF files and the GIS data sets, which may be downloaded by clicking here, are a combination of ESRI Coverages and Shapefiles. The GIS data sets are available in both Idaho Transverse Mercator (IDTM) and Universal Transverse Mercator projection (UTM).
